BBC Radio 2 Saturdays
The Biggest Saturdays on British Radio.
Saturdays on the UK’s most listened to station doesn’t slow down — and neither does the content operation behind it.
Before March 2023, BBC Radio 2’s Saturday schedule had no dedicated social media coverage.
As the Digital Producer brought in to change that, I built and led the full Saturday digital operation from the ground up — covering one of the most talent-rich lineups in British radio: Dermot O’Leary, Romesh Ranganathan, Mark Goodier, Zoe Ball, Emma Willis, and Rylan, back to back, every Saturday. Each show with its own tone, its own audience, and its own social moment to capture.
The role demanded the ability to shift creative gears constantly – from Dermot’s warm morning pace to Rylan’s get-ready-for-the-weekend energy – producing a mix of live reactive content and pre-produced pieces that felt native to social media while staying true to Radio 2’s vibrant flavour.
This also included revamping the presentation of KaRYoke – a staple on Rylan’s show – giving it the apt social treatment needed,
BBC Radio 2’s Instagram crossed 1 million followers in March 2026 — making it one of the most followed radio stations in the world on the platform.
Social Video Production
The core of the role was daily social video output — multiple pieces per show, per Saturday, across a lineup of four distinct programmes.
That meant reading the room in real time: knowing when a moment was happening, capturing it fast, and turning it around for Instagram and TikTok while the show was still on air.
Bespoke pieces with guests also came to the fore, allowing audiences to get a unique dimension to their favourite stars, or the fun that happens in studio during the songs.
Multi-Show Coverage
From Dermot O’Leary’s 8am start, to the highlight of the morning with Romesh at 10am, afternoon feel-good with Emma at 1pm, through to Rylan’s 3pm show, the Saturday schedule required constant creative context-switching — adapting tone, format, and visual approach for each presenter and their audience without losing momentum or quality across the day.
Capturing the zeitgeist
Aside from the show’s schedule, sometimes just seizing the moment is exactly what Radio 2’s audience love… including unplanned moments that light up on socials!

The Saturday schedule also gave rise to one of the most ambitious creative projects of the contract: KaRYoke, a full original format on Rylan’s show. It grew into something big enough to deserve its own page!
