Distinctly African.
African Movie Channel is a two channel network showcasing the latest and greatest in Nollywood, the second largest film industry in the world.
Its self-titled main channel broadcasts cinema from Nollywood’s home of Nigeria as well as acclaimed titles from the rest of the continent, while sister channel AMC Series showcases a wide range of comedy, drama and entertainment programming.
The rebrand included redrawing and refreshing their logo, and a revamp of the look and feel to the channels on-screen, without deviating away from the core of their business and further uniting the channels.
Hundreds of assets were created, including easy to use After Effects and Premiere, Photoshop and Word templates and documents for the editorial team to easily manipulate.
A full treatment of all visual touch points both on and off air was also undertaken to ensure a consistent feel across the entire brand.
Logo Refresh

The approach
The specular details from the light of a movie projector, formed the glossy base to the look. With the angles of the ‘AM’ logo as a framework, a double-sided prism design was created, with each network taking a side of the logo.
The prisms were multi-faceted: as theatre curtains, as angular viewpoints to present the vibrant content within.
Keeping in step with rich Movie Channel Red and Series Channel Purple, the logos were given a subtle sheen with light and lens flares as a design device.
Launching in 2017 to great fanfare, the Series channel recieved an update in 2019 ahead of a new slate of programming, and repositioning to a younger audience.

Launching a new Original brand
As part of their commitment to telling unique stories from the continent, African Movie Channel Original Productions was launched in 2018.
The original production arm of the channel required an identity that comfortably sat within the existing brand. A vibrant gold on black was chosen to help it stand out within the Movie Channel Red and Series Channel Purple, and to evoke a premium sentiment to their offerings of high quality storytelling.
The logo, taken from the existing AMC design, features an outline of a star cut out of the M, further highlighting its star quality from programming and cast. The identity reaches outside of TV and broadcast, onto digital marketing and into a catalogue showcasing the vivid library under the brand.
The design vernacular also lent itself to printed document design and a variety of movie posters under the brand.
